Strengthening the Team around Boys: "Same Side" Campaign and BE Co-authored Conversation Guide

March 20, 2026

In a world that is feeding young men harmful content and confusing scripts on how to act, how to feel, and how to "be a man," it’s time we changed the narrative.

Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about the pressures young men face, from the weight of expectation, the influence of online spaces, and the struggle to find authentic belonging. But there is a massive opportunity here. Young men today have the potential to be the most empathetic, self-aware, and respectful generation we’ve ever seen. They just need the right teammates to help them get there.

That’s why Beyond Equality are proud to support the creation of The Same Side Conversation Guide from UN Women UK.

More Than Just a Game

The Same Side campaign brings together the voices of elite athletes to talk about masculinity in a way that’s grounded in strength, respect, and allyship. It’s about showing young men that the qualities that make a great athlete—discipline, heart, and looking out for your team—are the same qualities needed to build a culture of safety and respect for women and girls.

A New Tool for People Raising, Coaching, Teaching or Supporting Boys

We know that starting these conversations can feel daunting. How do you talk about complex topics without sounding like you're lecturing? How do you address the "red flags" of social media content without pushing a young person away?

The Same Side Conversation Guide was designed to solve exactly that. It provides:

  • The Right Words: Practical prompts to open a dialogue with the children and young people in your life.
  • Navigating the Digital World: Clear guidance on spotting when online content crosses the line into harmful territory.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Strategies to challenge harmful gender norms in a way that’s supportive, not shaming or alienating.

Building a better future isn't about being on opposite teams from the young people in your life; it’s about realizing we are all on the Same Side.

We encourage every parent, coach, mentor, and educator to download the guide and start the conversation today.
